Mysore Dasara

Oct 2008

This was our first trip on the newly constructed Bengaluru Mysuru highway. It is a pleasant experience to be on this road. We visited Sangama, Srirangapatna, Mysuru and Chamundi Betta during this trip. I would love to visit any place on this road. It is amazing how a good clean road can transform the entire experience

The greenery in the Mandya belt was soothing to our eyes. The smell of green has always felt good. I recollect the times i used to travel by train from Bengaluru to Mysuru. The smell and air of the green fields in Mandya district is absolutely inviting.

It makes your heart filled with joy and you wish to just run amok in the fields. Thanks to Kannambadi katte we get to see life spring so close to Bengaluru.

A view of the Bengaluru Mysore highway somewhere near Mandya. We were heading to Sri Rangapatna and Sangam first. We were really eager to get a feel of the Cavery having missed for a long long time.

We reached Sangama sometime in the afternoon and we were aghast by the mess created by man. It is really ugly out there. This shot i took just when i was stepping down on the steps of confluence. The water body was very prestine but one look at the side made u puke. It is an indication of how disregarded people are towards their environment.

I think Indians are now bereft of all morality. Every one is turned into a coward so much so that they cannot put an effort to dump the garbage in a clean manner. I was outraged when a school bus packed with kids representing a school on a picnic mindless threw those "kurkures" out of the window. I wonder what the so called and morally highly regarded teachers accompanying them were doing. Maybe they threw two of them:). Now i remember to prepare myself for the fact that so called historic and places of interest in India are also places for toilet and filth all strewn around. And ofcourse we have no government to manage it, although note that we shell out lots of rupees as entry fees, because..they are themselves garbage. From now i have decided to capture all these filthy and interesting tourist places and will put it up here with lots of choicy words to the public who did this unholy deed!!

Anyway i could manage to take a picture of the beautiful Sangama. This place is awesome for sports and recreation if it is managed well, but unfortunately doing a good job is not in the capabilities of any indian. Even if one person tries to attempt it he would quickly be dismissed and scoffed at and maybe even outcasted. We quicly started from Sangama and headed to Ranganatha temple. This is the "Adi Ranga", "Madhya Ranga" being downstream near shivan samudhra and finally on the banks of a wider Cavery in Sri Ranga, Tamil Nadu. We also visited the banks of the Cavery close to the railway track. Here we go a beautiful thing to witness. An elderly Brahmin Couple visted the river banks to take a holy dip and peformed all the daily chores. It seemed like Sandhyavandane in the evening. It was very intersting to watch them and left me with a good feeling to understand that few folks do maintain our tradition. I was so thrilled to just witness it, it cleared my mind just like that, i am sure actually practising it is more satisfying!!. It was a good time spent on the banks.
